A certificate of analysis (C of A) is provided with each lot.
- Can using Fused Silica be hazardous to employee health?
- Fused “Amorphous” or “Non-crystalline” Silica is classified as a nuisance dust by OSHA and can be hazardous to employee health if dust levels exceed OSHA recommended exposure levels. When heated to extreme temperatures, all shell materials contain substantial amounts of cristobalite (a known carcinogen) so strict compliance to OSHA limits and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are recommended. Unlike zircon, Fused Silica is NOT radioactive.
- Is Fused Silica or using Fused Silica in my process bad for the environment?
- Typically not. Fused Silica itself is not known to be dangerous to the environment. Fused Silica slurries are water based solutions so they pose relatively low environmental impact compared to alumina or alumino-silicate processes which are typically alcohol based.
